Turmeric – uses and health benefits

Venison

Also known as Solomon ‘s Seal, pistil is very fragrant but poisonous. However, only the berries are inedible, the root is even used for medicinal purposes. It is very often confused with lily of the valley and the berries with blueberries. Turmeric was already used as a medicinal plant in antiquity, but has since been more and more forgotten.

General overview

Turmeric belongs to the genus of asparagus plants and is found throughout the northern hemisphere. But there are two types of claret, the most common multi-flowered claret and the fragrant claret, which is rare. This plant got its name from the white roots. The white root is also called Solomon’s seal, since the dying flower sprouts are reminiscent of the imprint of Solomon’s seal.

The scientific name is Polygonatum otoratum. The comfrey can reach a height of 60 cm, but the stems are usually in a slightly bent position. The green leaves resemble an egg and the flowers hang from the stems. Mostly bell-shaped and pendulous, but all are white in color. The flowering period is May and June. The berries then ripen between August and September, but they are poisonous. The blue-black berries are therefore not suitable for consumption.

Occurrence and cultivation

Pistachio mainly grows in deciduous forests. As already mentioned, two types occur, the many-flowered and the fragrant claret. However, these plants have different stems and the number of flowers varies greatly. These plant species can be easily distinguished because the many-flowered claret has round stems on which three to five flowers hang.

However, the fragrant claret has only two flowers at most and the stems are angular. Both plants are poisonous, only certain parts of the plant can be used. The roots are safe to use and the young shoots do not pose any danger either. Pistachio can also be planted in the garden, it loves calcareous soil that is not too dry and thrives in semi-shade.

Application and effect

Turmeric contains a lot of saponins , which reduce the tension on the surface of the water. They also have a hemolytic effect in the human body, so the red blood cells can be broken down more quickly in the event of a bruise. Allantoin is also present in bergamot, this ingredient promotes cell structure and cell regeneration. Incidentally, allantoin also soothes the skin , for example in the event of skin irritation.

But the bergris can do much more. It is expectorant , diuretic , calming and lowers blood sugar. Already in the 17th century it was considered a beauty product, this plant was used for age spots and freckles. Its hemolytic effect was used to heal wounds more quickly and it was even used in many love potions because it was said to have an aphrodisiac effect . Its astringent healing powers have been used to clear up diarrhea and hemorrhoids.

The tannins in bergamot are responsible for the astringent effect , they deprive bacteria of the breeding ground and so they can no longer settle on the skin. As a result, wounds heal faster and pain is no longer felt as severely. Turmeric has a calming effect and is therefore used for inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Its expectorant effect is also used, it can cure coughs and is even used to treat tuberculosis.

Furthermore, menstrual cramps are said to be alleviated and venison is also helpful for the connective tissue, the bones and the eyes. It is also said to bring relief from osteoarthritis. Turmeric is good for the heart and kidneys and is the perfect painkiller for gingivitis.

In traditional Chinese medicine, bergris is used for various heart diseases, and in folk medicine, bergris is a successful therapy for gout or vaginal discharge. In homeopathy , white root is highly valued; when used externally, it can remove pimples and impurities from the skin. For broken bones or sports injuries, a massage oil with white root is used. For internal use, a tea can be made from white root.
