Rang Jued
Rang Jued is a medicinal plant that has been cultivated in Thailand for thousands of years. It is used specifically to treat alcohol hangovers. Rang Jued has even been available as a dietary supplement in Germany for a number of years.
General overview
The old medicinal plant Rang Jued (Thunbergia laurifolia/grandiflora) is considered a weed in its native Thailand because of its rapid spread. It belongs to the acanthus family (Acanthuceae). The evergreen climbing plant is 2 meters high on average, but can also reach heights of 15 meters in individual cases. It has about 5 cm long, oblong to heart-shaped dark green leaves.
The robust shrub-like Rang Jued only grows in tropical and subtropical regions and therefore does not tolerate frost. In spring, the perennial plant shows its orchid-like large blue-purple trumpet flowers. Your yellowish funnel is surrounded by 5 petals, the lower one is a little larger and has a clear curvature at the funnel entrance.
The extremely decorative flowers are often grouped together. The fruit capsules develop from them in autumn. Those wishing to use the leaves for medicinal purposes can collect them throughout the summer. However, they should be dried immediately in the shade if you do not want to use the Rang Jued leaves fresh.

The Rang Jued comes from Malaysia and Thailand, where it has been used medicinally for a long time. It grows there in partial shade and shade. Because of its beautiful flowers, it is also a popular ornamental plant in southern parks. You can also find them along roadsides. Since the pretty tropical plant is not hardy, it cannot be permanently planted outside in Central Europe.
Plant it in a bright spot to get more warmth. It needs a lot of water and has to be fertilized regularly in summer. The medicinal plant thrives best at temperatures of at least 18 degrees Celsius. In winter it should not be colder than 15 degrees. The best place to spend the winter is therefore the conservatory or the sunlit windowsill.
